life
Yeah, I know I am a slacker. Whatever. Life has been very busy for me and my kids. In July, we moved away from Sunny Florida to Kansas. We bought a house and my dogs have their own backyard! In fact, my kids have their own room. The piggies stay in there all the time and I have put together the little cubbie hole thing with the canvas totes to keep all of their meds, toys and brushes. I even hung up their clothes up in their closet. Yes. I am a loser. Whatever.
So, with the move came a new job. I am really enjoying it. I stayed in the animal field and I work for a new vets office. I like to think that I can still do a little bit of everything.
Now on to the furkid updates. Have a seat, grab some coffee and settle in... it's long.
My babies had been fine, but then about two weeks ago, I brought Bella over from my parents to go to work with me. She has had a recurring ear infection and never really figured out what was growing in there. We got that taken care of and of course you take care of one thing and another issue occurs. I noticed she had diarrhea and I saw some blood in there. I thought well, I am at work, let's just send out a sample. Lalala, results come back. WHIPWORMS? WHAT? Yeah, so I had her dewormed and so far all is well, right? NO! I brought her home that evening and what the heck should happen, she urinates blood. Are you serious? It turns out she just has a bladder infection. It has thankfully been taken care of. I decided to run a full blood panel on her and it all came back normal. Bella- please stay healthy! I love you!
Alright, that is one down. Next- Pablo. Pablo is my first guinea pig. She (Yes, SHE) is almost four. I was cleaning out the piggie cage a few weeks ago and as I was lifting Pablo out, I felt a lump on her left side. I took her in and we checked it out. It turns out it was just a limpoma. Or was it? When you do an aspirate, you can poke an area and get just fatty tissues. Luck of the draw I guess?? Anywho- Last week, I noticed that the lump had gotten bigger, harder and she had started chewing at the area. So, now I must decided to have it removed or just wait and see. Grrrreat. What makes this better is that my vet clinic doesn't have experiences with Piggies.
Next up- My Lemon, my love, my Pita.
As mentioned earlier, she is an epileptic baby. She always has a small seizure that lasts maybe a few seconds at least once a week. Well, this past weekend, my poor girl had at least 50. You read that right, 50. They were all small and under 20 seconds, but not enough for her to make it to the eclinic. I gave her the last of the diazepam we had on hand, but it didn't do anything for her. Some of her seizures were screaming and those are the worst. My poor hubby didn't get any sleep. I think he had cramps in his arms and his hands from holding her while he tried to sleep. It was a rough weekend. I took my baby girl to work and she had one seizure while she was there. Pita does not have them while she is playing or alert. She only has them while she is sleeping.
While Pita poop was with me, I had some blood work done on her. I like to do this to check on her levels since she is on meds and whatnot. Well, what do you know? She has hypothyroidism. Yea. This means she gets MORE medicine. Pita now takes soloxine, phenobarb, potassium Bromide and two different eye drops. AHH!! Since we increased her phenobarb dose, she now gets a grand total of 7 pills a day. IT'S NOT FREAKING FAIR! WHY? What did she do to anyone? Why does she have to suffer?
Honestly, she isn't really suffering. She is very spoiled and is a really happy dog. She is active, playful, always hungry and full of life. I hope this increase will help out and not take her away from me. My husband and I have decided that in light of all of this, we are fully enjoying everything she does. That includes her gas. Someday, she will not be with us and we will miss every little thing she does. We love that special baby.
Luckily, my other babies are all fine. At least I hope so. :)

Pita turns 5!
Pita is the oldest of my pups. We moved to Florida with some friends in 2004. According to their rules, I was not allowed to have any cats or dogs. Well, in September of 2004, I began searching for my dog. I was miserable in that house. I love my boyfriend (that is all he was then), but I
had never NOT had a dog. Finally in October, he saw this picture on petfinder.com and said THAT is our dog. When we read the description, I knew she had to be ours. She was a two year old Shih Tzu with Epilepsy. I knew I could handle it and we could give her the home she had been looking for. So, on October 16, 2004, Pita came to live us.

Am I a loser for this?
So, here I sit at my desk, thinking about my dogs. Apparently, I am so enamoured with them that I have decided to create a blog about them. OK- so it won't really be all about them. I have several pets. I work in a vets office, so I am around all kinds and I love to talk to about them. However, my babies will be taking center stage.
